Lisa Albin
Lisa Albin introduced herself to Offi at ICFF in 2005, when she first launched the Iglooplay children's collection. Given our mutual modernist sensibility and love of bent ply, we felt that a product collaboration was in the cards. Lisa has worked across several design disciplines since graduating from The Rhode Island School of Design with a Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor Fine Arts. After assisting renowned landscape architect Alexandre Chemetoff in Paris and installation artist Vito Acconci in Brooklyn, Lisa spent the next 10 years designing residential interiors and feature films in NYC. Inspired by her two daughters, Lisa combined her fascination of children with her understanding of design and use to create Iglooplay. Her experience as a painter, architect and set designer has made for a richly, intuitive approach to design that is at the same time specific with regard to function, yet sculpturally minimal and open to individual experience. Lisa's playful, interactive and multi-age designs are being specified widely for a variety of libraries, pediatric hospitals, day care centers, communal play spaces and hotel lounges. Her products have been featured in a variety of fine stores such as, the Museum of Modern Art Design Store, SoHo and Tokyo and Barneys stores nationwide. Lisa's Mod Rocker was picked as "the best child's chair," by New York Magazine: Best of NY 2008, and was awarded Honorable Mention by the 2006 I.D. Magazine Annual Design Review. The Iglooplay collection earned a 2005 Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum / Museum of Architecture and Design. Her designs have been published widely in the top shelter magazines and several international publications. Lisa has taught at Parsons School of Design and has guest-lectured at Columbia University, School of Visual Arts and Cooper-Hewitt Museum's workshops. Through her design practice, Lisa Albin Design, she continues interior and furniture design work and develops proposals for indoor and outdoor public play/lounge spaces.
